Riphean oil of the Rybachy Peninsula: myth or key to a new direction of oil and gas prospecting on the Barents shelf?

On the basis of the newest geological-geophysical data analysis the conclusion of Kola-Kanin monocline thrust structure and presence of a riphean graben-like trough in its underthrust zone is made. The Rybachy Peninsula which riphean complexes are characterized by abnormally high contents of carbon gases is a unique district of land within the limits of which the installation of parametrical drilling is possible to research structure and estimation of oil and gas bearing of the monocline underthrust zone. The riphean graben-like trough in the Kola-Kanin monocline underthrust zone has rather favourable geographical position in the structure of the Murmansk and Arkhangelsk regions. Therefore, in case of positive results this new oil and gas bearing region will have an extremely great importance for the solution of fuel and energy problems of the whole North-West region of Russia.
